Teaching Module (Iterations, Fractals and Chaos)

Lesson 1

Title: Iterations and Fractals

Objective: To investigate a typical fractal, the Sierpinski Triangle, so as to introduce some fractal phenomena including self-similarity and fractional dimensions.

Before the lesson,

• Prepare one copy of worksheet for each student, and print 8 transparencies for each group of students.
• Prepare the equipments needed as listed on the worksheet. In particular, arrange, preferably, one computer with internet connection for each student, and arrange some marking pens and a die for each group of students. An overhead projector will also be needed in class.

Note: it is highly recommended to use PDF to print the worksheet and the transparency.
